In response to the rising levels of youth-involved crime, the Youth Violence Conflict Resolution Seminar will take place on Saturday, November 9 at the J.C. Napier Community Center. The event will tackle the alarming surge in violent crime among young people, its impact on the community, and practical strategies to foster peace and prevent future violence.
Recent data from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reveals a 15% increase in youth-involved violent crime over the past year. Gun violence, assaults, and other criminal activities have placed an increasing strain on families and communities. The tragic shooting at Tennessee State University on October 12, 2024, which resulted in multiple injuries, underscores the urgent need for meaningful dialogue and action to address this crisis.
The seminar will feature a series of discussions from community leaders, law enforcement officials, and community safety experts. Topics will focus on:
• The rise of youth violence and its long-term effects on public safety
• The emotional and social impact on schools, families, and communities
• Solutions for prevention, including conflict resolution, mentorship, and community support initiatives
“Our goal is to create a safe space where young people and community members can come together, share their experiences, and learn effective ways to address conflicts,” said an event organizer. “By working together, we can empower our youth to make better choices and build a stronger, safer community.”
This free event is open to the public, with a special focus on youth aged 12–18. Families, educators, and community members are invited to attend and actively participate in the conversation.
