The ladies of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will host the “kNOw Human Trafficking Symposium” on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 10:00 am – 12:00 p.m., at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1303 Hawkins St., Nashville, TN 37203.
Middle Tennessee and the Nashville area is a magnet for youth sex trafficking because of the number of tourists and conventions. Traffickers also find their clientele from the military base and among residents in some of the area’s most affluent populations. Our goal is to educate parents and community members about youth sex trafficking and the different laws protecting victims and the resources available to them.
Guest speakers on the panel include Ms. Jill Rutter with EndSlaveryTN.org, Professor Cheryl Page from the Duncan School of Law at Lincoln Memorial University, Mr. Cornelius Carroll, author and motivational speaker, State Representative Sherry Jones and a survivor leader from Thistle Farms. Additional panelists are forthcoming.
The Golden Alert is a collection of sustainable community action plan that include forums and youth symposiums developed to address current community needs. The Golden Alert symposium will focus on education, empowerment and solutions.
