Join Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for a Community Food Giveaway on Saturday, April 20 at 1109 32nd Avenue North from 10AM-NOON.

The giveaway bags include enough food for 3 dinners and breakfasts. Suggested menus and recipes are included. Rather bringing in random food products, the congregation makes financial contributions to the food pantry which allows the purchase of specific items. The food giveaways help those who have run out of money for food before the end of the month. When something unexpected happens, the money for food is the first to go. The food budget is more flexible than utility bills or rent payments.

The church is surrounded by households facing food insecurity, according to a recently-released study  from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Using measurements of food access and household economic hardship, the ZIP codes with the highest rates of food insecurity include 37207, 37208, and 37218 – all near the church.
