The Isley Brothers Will Have Two Street-Naming Ceremonies On The Same Day

Teaneck and Englewood, NJ are going to honor the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers for their rooted connections.
Did you know that the Isley Brothers have roots in New Jersey?

Although originally from and billed as being Cincinnati, Ohio’s finest (and funkiest) band in all of the land, the Isleys will be honored by two communities who have an unspoken bond together.

On Thursday, June 24, the streets in Teaneck and Englewood will be singing “It’s Your Thing,” while renaming two streets for their impact within the community. “I’m truly grateful and humbled that Teaneck and Englewood, two cities that are so near and dear to me, have chosen to honor the Isley Brothers in this way,” Ron Isley said.

In two separate ceremonies the same day, a stretch of Van Arsdale Place in Teaneck and a stretch of Liberty Road in Englewood will each be given the same honorary name: The Isley Brothers Way.
“We had feelings for both places,” said Ernie Isley, who once lived on Liberty Road in Englewood. He and his brother Ron, who once lived on Van Arsdale in Teaneck, will be there for the twin re-christening ceremonies at 2:00 p.m. If you’re interested in celebrating with them, too, the event will take place at the corner of Van Arsdale and Van Cortlandt Terrace in Teaneck, and then at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Liberty Road and Greenleaf Avenue in Englewood.

“This is something very special to Ernie, me, and the whole Isley family, and something we don’t take for granted,” Ron Isley said (neither brother lives in New Jersey now).
