Rep. Maxine Waters Sent Megan Thee Stallion an Encouraging note: “I Have Your Back”

IT’S IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP EACH OTHER UPLIFTED AT ALL TIMES.
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has had a triumphant year, and she’s wrapping it up with an encouraging note from U.S. Representative Maxine Waters.
“One of the highlights of my year was getting a letter from Congress Woman [Maxine Waters,]” the “Savage” rapper wrote on Instagram. “I am so honored to be recognized by such an amazing woman and I promise to keep using my voice and encourage others to use theirs.” Waters sent the letter to Megan following the publication of her New York Times op-ed, during which she addressed the problematic ways that people treat, and think of, Black women.
“I read the op-ed you wrote that appeared in the New York Times recently,” Congresswoman Waters’ letter began. “I can’t thank you enough for bringing much-needed attention to the plight of Black women, not just here in the United States—but everywhere.” She also touched on that although Black women often carry heavy burdens for our families, as well as society at large, we are not always given the attention that we deserve when we are in need.
“While we are too often overlooked, there is no doubt that women are a glue for our families and communities, and a crucial part of the fabric of this country,” she wrote.
Congresswoman Waters closed by sharing how proud she is Megan for persevering in the midst of turmoil and that she has the representatives’ full support. “I write all this to say that I’m so incredibly proud of you,” she shared. “I know that Black women and girls everywhere thank you for the way you so fiercely have their back. I want you to know I have your back, too.”
It is so sincerely heartwarming to see Black women supporting one another across generations, as it is a reminder that we are charged with looking out for each other.
