Nashville Mayor Cooper announces capital spending plan to reform metro spending

Nashville Mayor John Cooper announced capital spending reform legislation Wednesday which would require Metro to fully plan public projects before construction begins. Cooper’s administration has partnered with Metro Council Budget and Finance Chair Bob Mendes to write the legislation. The ordinance would require Metro Council and the Mayor’s Office to fully itemize and appropriate funds for public projects before construction begins. The proposed ordinance has an estimated value of over $5 million.


DEMOCRATS BOLSTER CASE

Wednesday’s televised hearing of the impeachment inquiry was used by Democrats to build their case for Trump’s impeachment, while Republicans attempted to dismiss the claims that the president used “quid pro quo” with Ukraine.

The opening-day hearing lasted nearly six hours. Trump claimed he wasn’t watching, but he fired off tweets throughout the day while the hearing was taking place.


BRIANNA WILLIAMS MOTHER CHARGED

Six days after Brianna Williams reported her 5-year-old daughter, Taylor Rose Williams, missing, she’s been charged with child neglect and giving false information to investigator. Williams was charged at a Florida hospital after an “overdose of some sort.” . On Monday Sheriff announced that Williams was a person of interest in the case of her missing daughter. Earlier on Tuesday investigators discovered human remains in a wooded area. The evidence is currently being processed to see if they belong to Taylor Rose.


Judge to decide if outside jury will hear Metro police officer’s murder trial

Judge Monte Watkins heard arguments and will ultimately decide whether or not there will be a change of venue in the Andrew Delke murder trial . If he grants the request, it likely means a jury will be brought in from another city – possibly Chattanooga or Knoxville. Delke, who is currently decommissioned, is charged with first degree  murder for the shooting death of Daniel Hambrick after a traffic stop in 2018. Judge Watkins will give his decision in two weeks.


I-65 NORTH SHUT DOWN

Crews are  working to clean up diesel fuel that has spilled on I-65 in Goodlettsville after a rollover crash Thursday morning.  between Vietnam Vets Boulevard and Long Hollow Pike. According to TDOT, a semi-truck crashed around 3:15 a.m. on I-65 northbound at mile marker 97. The rollover has shut down the interstate. The interstate is expected to reopen around 8 a.m.
