Man charged with hitting, killing pedestrian on Murfreesboro Pike

A motorcyclist has been charged with hitting and killing a pedestrian on Murfreesboro Pike Sunday night. According to police, 39-year-old Clifton Wright will be booked on homicide by intoxication after his discharge from Vanderbilt Medical Center. Officers said Wright was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson down Murfreesboro Pike Sunday night around 9 p.m. when he hit and killed 77-year-old Rosemary Follrich as she pushed a shopping cart across the street. Police said the motorcycle skidded uphill on its side for 460 feet. Wright suffered non-life threatening injuries. Wright also smelled of alcohol and a blood sample from him is being analyzed by MNPD’s Crime lab, investigators said. They also said speeding was considered a factor in the crash. No other information was released.


Man shot in the face in Antioch

Police are investigating a shooting in Antioch. Metro Nashville Police officials responded to the call from the 3500 block of Murfreesboro Pike. There, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the face. He was transported to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. No details were released on a possible suspect


Off-duty Sumner County correctional officer charged with domestic assault

Court documents revealed what led to charges against an off-duty Sumner County Sheriff’s Department correctional officer. According to a police affidavit, Hector Becerra threw his ex-girlfriend to the ground and punched her boyfriend in the face at least eight times. He was charged with domestic assault. Becerra was also a reserve officer for the Gallatin Police Department.


Charges Dropped Against Black Teacher Who Punched White Student Who Called Him the N-Word

Marston Riley a 64-year old Black teacher who was arrested on charges of child abuse after he punched a student who was yelling racial slurs at him, has had the charges against him dropped.

Riley can be seen calm despite the disrespect of the student, who called him the n word and even threw a basketball at him. The student continued taunting him until he decided to punch the student in the face.

Riley was initially arrested and charged with child abuse and causing great bodily injury to a child. He was also forced to retire. But many of his colleagues, as well as the students and their parents, came to his defense.


Trump launches campaign to win Black support, promising to make 2020 a ‘year of change’

In a turn some may find ironic, Donald Trump’s team has kicked off an election season effort called “Black Voices for Trump,” — in the Black cultural magnet city of Atlanta. The campaign initiative, directing efforts toward recruiting African American Trump supporters,  kicked off with an elite, invitation-only event with a crowd of mostly Black conservatives, some of whom wore “Black Lives MAGA” hats.

Amongst the hundreds in attendance were former presidential hopeful Herman Cain,  Martin Luther King, Jr.’s niece Alveda King and former state legislator Melvin Everson. The campaign has launched similar coalitions for women, Latinos, and veterans.
