19-year-old killed in Murfreesboro crash

A Wednesday morning crash in Murfreesboro claimed the life of a 19-year-old. The man was killed after his vehicle ran off the road and down an embankment before hitting a tree near the southbound lane of NW Broad Street. Several crews were called to remove the 19-year-old from the crashed car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 39-year-old passenger was hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital. The Fatal Accident Crash Team is investigating the crash.


 Police search for murder suspect in cold case

Metro Police officials have asked for the public’s help in their search for a newly identified cold case murder suspect. Detectives identified 31-year-old Aaron Berkley as the man responsible for a South Nashville murder of 24 year old Essex Isaac Washington in the parking lot of Bavaria Apartments on Packard Drive 9 years ago this month. Anyone who may know where Berkley may bee was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.


Two men arrested during violent home break-in Tuesday morning

According to police, 26-years-old Nicholas Dears and 19-year-old felon Demarrea Cotton  were arrested during a break-in early Tuesday morning. The two men kicked in the door of a 69 year old man and robbed him. Police arrived and caught the men in the act. A 9mm handgun that had fallen from Cotton’s pants was found at the scene. They are being held on $80,000 and $60,000 bonds respectively.


Suspect in 2001 Paris, Tenn. murder captured in Nashville

Metro Nashville police officers have captured a suspect in an 18-year-old murder case who had recently been added to the state’s most wanted list. Tennessee Bureau of Investigations said Douglas Talley was wanted for the murder of Etta Etheridge who  was found dead inside her home in Paris, Tennessee in 2001. Metro police said Wednesday he was taken into custody in Nashville. He was booked into the Davidson County Jail while waiting for transportation to Henry County.


Kansas City Votes to Remove Martin Luther King’s Name From Historic Street

  • Kansas City voters approved a measure requiring the city to remove Martin Luther King’s name from one of the city’s most historic streets, The Paseo.
  • The street, which runs through the city’s mostly black east side, was renamed for King less than a year ago.
  • The measure to remove King’s name won with 70 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election.
  • Supporters of the measure said the city council did not follow proper procedure, and are ignoring the historic value of The Paseo name.
  • MLK supporters say the measure is racially based, and sets a bad example.
