Whoa….Not Janelle Monae!!!!

Has Janelle Monae lost her mind??

The Afrofuturist artist says “One of the things I’m trying to learn to do is let go.”

Have you peeped her latest videos? She’s serving more than funk. Here’s one:

Now when I first saw this particular video, it was (still is) a tough pill to swallow. It’s just challenging (for me) to go from seeing Janelle Monae always being so dignified, self respecting, and afrocentrically funky to watching her grinding on men and women at the same time and showing full fledged booty on a podium. It might be a bit much all at once to throw on us.

Here’s another lil caveat for ya. Janelle Monae is definitely showing more of her

sexual preference these days. This video isn’t the only way she’s expressing her freedom. Her appearance on the red carpet with actress Tessa Thompson has many folks wondering if she’s finally out of the “closet”.

Regardless, she does explain her reasoning behind her recent bold changes.

Monae states, “I’m about women’s empowerment. I’m about agency. I’m about being in control of your narrative and your body. That was personal for me to even talk about: to let people know you don’t own or control me and you will not use my image to defame or denounce other women.”

She states that people have used her image to make other women feel bad about being sensual and showing their body. Wearing a tuxedo and covering up is not for the purpose to shame other women.

Makes alot of sense now. But, is this the “right” way to fight against that?

She’s dropped 2 songs so far from her album Dirty Computer. Peep the trailer:
