H&M’s Racist Ad

Clothing retailer H&M released an advertisement yesterday introducing a specific hoodie to their product line, but received backlash calling the store racist. The ad features a young African American boy wearing a hoodie reading “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”. R&B singer The Weeknd immediately responded to the viral image tweeting “woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. I’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore…” LeBron James also weighed in on Instagram reimaging the ad to be better fitted for a king. H&M responded to the criticism with NBC News hours ago stating, “We understand that many people ae upset about the image. We who work at H&M can only agree. We are deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and regret the actual print.” The image was removed from their site but NBC News discovered it was still being sold on the company’s Spanish website.
