Anthony Senerchia, the man who inspired the world to participate in the ALS ice bucket challenge, has died at the age of 46. Senerchia was diagenosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2003. In 2014, Senerchia challenged his cousin to pour a bucket of ice cold water over her head in the name of ALS. During an eight-week period in 2014, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raised $115 million for ALS awareness, with $89 million going to research and for a treatment and cure for the disease. Senerchia is survived by his wife, Jeanette and nine year old daughter, Taya.
