Fisk University, my alma mater, will begin its 150th Anniversary celebration with an awesome Pre-Sesquicentennial event. Hollywood actor/writer/director Ted Lange (The Love Boat), is bringing his critically acclaimed play, Lady Patriot, to Fisk’s Memorial Chapel. The stellar cast stars Fisk alumnus, Lou Beatty Jr. (Betty White’s Off Their Rockers), and Chrystee Pharris (Queens of Drama, Scrubs).
The play tells the story of Mary Bowser, the African-American heroine in Confederate President Jefferson Davis’ White House. Based on a true story, Lady Patriot reveals an intimate look into the prejudices and patriotism of three ladies who lived during the Civil War: Varina Davis, Elizabeth Van Lew, and Mary Bowser.
This event is a fundraiser benefitting Fisk’s drama/theater program and the General Scholarship Fund.
