Though focusing on her new movie Proud Mary which comes out Friday the Empire actress will produce and star in an Emmett Till Biopic directed by John Singleton. The story of Till still furies many African Americans today as it became the starting line for the Civil Rights Movement. The 14 year old boy was brutally beaten and lynched in Mississippi of 1955 by the then husband of Carolyn Donham who falsely accused him of offending her. In a book entitled, The Blood of Emmett Till by Timothy Tyson, Donham confessed to Tyson that she lied about an altercation happening between her and Till. At the funeral of Emmet Till his mother Mammie Till left his casket open wanting to show the world the atrocity inflicted on her son. It is reported that Taraji P. Henson will be playing the mother in the movie but whom else will star is unknown.
Alongside Proud Mary and the Emmet Till biopic Henson will star in Tyler Perry’s film Acrimony in March Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2 in November and the historic drama The Best OF Enemies portraying civil activist Ann Atwater.
