A California jury has ordered that Bill Cosby has to pay a total $59.25 million to a woman he drugged and raped in 1972.
The massive amount was reached following an afternoon session Monday by the jury in the civil case on establishing punitive damages for plaintiff Donna Motsinger. After a couple of hours of deliberation, the jurors decided on $40 million in punitive damages for the former Bay Area waitress.
Cosby was also found liable in a long running sexual assault case, and ordered to pay $19 million to the victim.
A California jury found in favor of former waitress Donna Motsinger after deciding he drugged and sexually assaulted her while taking her to one of his shows in 1972. Motsinger claimed that Cosby gave her wine and a pill that left her incapacitated after picking her up at her home in a limo.
Cosby, who denied the allegation, was previously found guilty of similar charges, but freed from prison in 2021 after his conviction was thrown out on a technicality
