EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson is returning to the world of Dreamgirls, but this time she’s stepping behind the scenes as a producer for a major Broadway revival.
This production marks the first official Broadway return of the iconic musical since its original debut 45 years ago, and it is scheduled to open this fall.
The revival will be led by five-time Tony nominee Camille A. Brown, who is set to both direct and choreograph the “newly reimagined” version of the story.
Hudson, who won an Academy Award for her legendary performance as Effie White in the 2006 film, says the project is deeply personal as the story “remains an ever-present force” in her life.
To find the new lead trio, producers have launched a massive worldwide talent search with auditions being held in major cities like Atlanta, Chicago, London, and Paris.
Hudson said, “I am beyond honored to join the extraordinary producing team… this fall cannot come soon enough.”
