Roots drummer and filmmaker Questlove revealed that a posthumous D’Angelo project is on the way, marking the first release since the singer’s 2014 comeback Black Messiah.
Questlove says the music carries the same timeless, future-forward sound that defined D’Angelo’s most celebrated work.
The pair worked closely on Voodoo as part of the Soulquarians collective, and Questlove reflected on their final rehearsal together in a recent tribute, noting that he sensed “something final” without realizing the severity of D’Angelo’s illness at the time.
