Prince’s iconic 1984 film and album “Purple Rain” is officially heading to Broadway.
After an early run in Minneapolis, the musical adaptation is set to premiere next year at the Majestic Theatre.
Frequent Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes have joined the creative team to serve as music advisors.
The original “Purple Rain” project turned Prince into a global icon, with the album topping the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks in a row.
Previews for the new musical will kick off on March 12th, 2027, with an official opening night set for April 12th.
The Broadway show is the latest in a steady line of projects authorized by Prince’s estate since his death in 2016.
