San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is urging organizers to cancel Ye’s planned July 4 concert at the Alamodome, saying the city should not provide a public stage to an artist with a record of antisemitic remarks and hate speech.
In a public statement, Jones said Independence Day should reflect unity and respect, not division. She also pointed to the Alamodome’s role as a city-owned venue, arguing that public spaces carry a responsibility to protect community values.
The concert is currently scheduled for July 4 in San Antonio. Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has faced widespread criticism in recent years over repeated antisemitic comments, which led to lost business partnerships and public backlash.
The mayor’s statement does not automatically cancel the event, but it adds political pressure around the booking. The situation now centers on whether venue officials, promoters, or other city leaders will take action before the show date.
