Tory Lanez has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and several officials after being brutally stabbed 16 times by inmate Santino Casio in May 2025 while serving a 10-year sentence related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez’s lawsuit alleges serious negligence, claiming that prison officials failed to keep him safe despite his celebrity status, which made him a known target, and housed him next to a convicted murderer, Casio, with a documented history of violence.
The attack reportedly resulted in Lanez suffering from permanent facial scarring and two collapsed lungs, prompting him to seek substantial damages, including $1 million per stab wound, along with additional compensation for emotional trauma and the loss of his unpublished songbooks.
The lawsuit criticizes prison guards for their delayed response during the attack, claiming they did not employ standard protocols like using flash grenades or other tactical measures to intervene, constituting deliberate indifference to his safety.
Lanez asserts that officials at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi violated protocols by allowing his housing assignment with Casio, who is currently serving a life sentence for murder and had previously shown violent tendencies.
The case is further complicated by claims that while recovering in the hospital, the prison confiscated Lanez’s personal belongings, including songbooks containing lyrics with significant commercial value, which he demands be returned.
Casio has publicly stated that he believed Lanez may have intended to harm him, claiming he acted in self-defense.
Lanez’s lawsuit coincides with ongoing appeals related to his conviction for the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion.
