Twitter debates who would win a Verzuz battle between Prince and Michael Jackson

“People compare them, but they actually possess different geniuses,” one fan remarked.
After yet another successful Verzuz battle, fans are back on Twitter debating which artists they’d love to see go head-to-head on the virtual series. On Sunday (April 4), a popular dream mashup was brought back into the conversation: who would win in a Verzuz battle between Michael Jackson and Prince?
One Twitter user started the hypothetical debate. “If they were alive today this would be HANDS DOWN the best Verzuz ever,” they wrote.
Fans quickly took sides.
“Y’all buggin! Lol, Mike would mop the floor with Prince,” one person tweeted. “Music from Jackson 5 days and his solo career would get Prince outta here.”
“As if Prince Rogers Nelson would ever deign to join a Verzuz!” another joked.
“Prince would win though,” a fan added.
Some fans argued that the two platinum-selling artists shouldn’t even be compared.
“Prince is a GENIUS MUSICIAN. Michael Jackson is not. Michael Jackson is [a] GENIUS ENTERTAINER. Prince is not,” one person wrote. “People compare them but they actually possess different geniuses.”
“Prince had the skills on the instruments and MJ had the skills on the dance floor… they both had hits and could sing their asses off!” another commented. “A Verzuz would’ve been dope AF but a collab would’ve been even more dope!”
This isn’t the first time fans have fantasized about a mashup between the two late superstars. Both Michael and Prince have appeared in Twitter debates since Verzuz first began, along with other commonly discussed pairings like Usher and Chris Brown, Bow Wow, and Romeo, and more.
The re-sparked conversation arrives a few days after the Verzuz Easter Sunday battle between The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire. Later this month, Redman and Method Man are also set to take the virtual ring.
According to Xscape’s LaTocha Scott, a Verzuz battle between the famed girl group and SWV is also on the way. As reported by REVOLT, Scott broke the news to TMZ last month and confirmed that a battle between the two groups will take place on May 8.
