Grammy and Oscar award winner John Legend will star as Jesus in NBC’s upcoming live production “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.” The musical is based off of Tony Award-nominated rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, beginning with biblical parables and ending with the crucifixion of Christ. This modern version is a three hour event that will focus on the different perspectives of Christ’s betrayers during the days leading to his crucifixion. Legend was quoted by Entertainment Weekly saying, “It’s such a powerful. Meaningful musical and I’m humbled to be part of this performance. We’ve already formed an incredible team, and, as we finish casting, I’m certain we will put together some of the greatest talents around to do this work justice.” The live taping will take place at the Marcy Armory in Brooklyn, New York and will air on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.
