SHARI J HARPER

In 1997, native Chicagoan, Shari J Harper’s passion and desire to be in radio led her to R&B station Kix 96 in Jackson, TN. After expressing her desire to be in radio, she began a 3-day boot camp that jump started her career. She was given a shot and put on the air that weekend as the new overnight host of “Pillow Talk” and “Sunday Jazz”. This opened the door to many new opportunities. From hosting mid-days to co- hosting the morning show for Kix and its pop sister station Q102 to recording the news for both stations. From this, she became the assistant to “The Queen of Blues”, Denise LaSalle, where her knowledge and love of blues music began.

Her love for music allowed her the opportunity to work for concert promoters and entertainment groups. As the personal “in-town” assistant for such celebrities as Silk, Eddie Griffin, and Reggie “Bruh Man” Ballard, she got to know the industry from the inside out. Further improving her skills, she became the Production Director for country station Eagle 104.1 WTNV (now Froggy 104.1 WOGY) in 2000. At Rock 92.3 WYNU and News Talk 1390 WTJS, she worked as on-air talent, broadcasted the news, and wrote, produced, and recorded commercials. She later became part of the morning team on Eagle 104.1 which led to the show – “Conrad and Company”. From this, her love for country music grew. She became a part of Darryl Worley’s “River Run Concerts” in Savannah, TN. She then went on to hosting radio and television telethons for St. Jude, where her new venture in television began.

She was cast in several television commercials where she spoke and gave history facts about “Black History Moments” during Black History Month. She also had the opportunity of being “the girl on the street” reporter in live television broadcasts of several parades, interviewing spectators and dignitaries and served as the spokesperson in a Corkey’s BBQ commercial.

Soon after, she returned to radio and began working at 102.5 The Party for a year in Nashville, TN. She is currently working for 92.1 (92Q) where she’s been for the past 2 years. Starting as the Sunday evening on-air talent from 5 pm – 9pm, she now hosts “Overnight Groove” from midnight – 4 am during the week. She couldn’t get the TV bug out of her system, so in 2010 hooked up with Michael “MaxFab” West, Ricky “Hypeman Rick“ Toran, and Robert Eva to re-launch the TV show “Not Just Country”, where she currently serves as Assistant Producer and Promotions Manager.
