TRUMP WANTS TO LIMIT AID TO LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLDS

If you’re poor or low-income in the U.S. and take advantage of government safety net programs, you could be affected by a number of new rules and actions proposed by the Trump administration. Trump has said  that he wants to get more people off government aid and into the workforce so they can become self-sufficient. But anti-poverty advocates say the administration’s proposals would hurt, rather than help, poor Americans. They say it will make it more difficult for those trying to become self-sufficient by denying them food, housing and medical assistance when they need it most.


TEEN ACCUSED FATHER’S MURDER WILL NOT BE TRIED AS AN ADULT 

A teen accused of killing his father will not be tried as an adult. Michael Goff III is charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of Michael Goff, Jr. Prosecutors wanted Goff’s case to be transferred to adult criminal court. However, in her order, Judge Sheila Calloway wrote that Goff III has PTSD, has not been in trouble, and is receptive to mental health treatment. Therefore, he will remain in the juvenile justice system.


POLICE CHASE ENDS ON I-65, TEMPORARILY BLOCKING SOUTHBOUND LANES

Metro Nashville Police officers responded to a call from Bordeaux Hospital on County Hospital Road of someone being held at gunpoint last night. The driver, 20-year-old Dylan Bailey, stopped, but when Officer McCollum got out, Bailey rammed his cruiser.  That’s when the Officer McCollum fired four shots at the vehicle, but Bailey was able to get away. Two guns were found inside the van, along with meth, heroin, roxy and Xanax bars. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and reckless endangerment.


I-24 CLOSED FOR FATAL CRASH

Interstate 24 east is closed just north of Harding Place after a fatal crash involving a car and semi-truck early Wednesday morning.  The crash happened at about 1:30am this morning. It’s unclear how the crash happened. Metro Police will update us as the fatal team investigates. TDOT hopes to reopen eastbound lanes by 5am, but that could change.  We will update this story with any developments.


INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT SECURE UNTIL 2021

The Nashville public schools board secured its interim superintendent, Adrienne Battle for at least the next two years on Tuesday night, ending several months of uncertainty about the director’s contract. The agreement lasts until April 15, 2021, and will allow for  Battle to remain in place until after next year’s school board election. Battle will be paid $285,000 a year for her service as interim. She will be allowed to return to her job or an equivalent position if she isn’t selected as a permanent director in 2021.
