Severe Storms Cause Flooding Throughout Mid-State

A couple storms became strong with damaging straight line winds, and so much rain fell that dozens of roads were blocked throughout the mid-state. A few locations received 2-4″ of rain and others received up to 5 inches. A Middle TN woman was killed after being swept away in flood waters. The woman was swept off the bridge at the 4600 block of Ponds Creek Road in Pegram Wednesday evening, according to Cheatham County Emergency Management. They say she was attempting to cross the bridge on foot.  Her identification is being held pending family notification

Man Shot And Killed During Standoff With Rutherford Co. Deputies

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now looking into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Rutherford County late Wednesday. The sheriff’s office was called to a home in the Cascade subdivision in Rutherford County last night. A 43-year-old man was in the home and had three hostages. Negotiators were called out and two people were released from the home, but the third was unable to leave because of medical reasons. The Sheriff’s Office said after negotiating with the man for one hour, he exited the home and showed a gun. That’s when officers fired shots, killing the man. The man’s name has not been released

VIRGINIA: AG Wore Blackface, Too

Does Virginia have any high-ranking officials who deserve to be in office?

Last month, Governor Ralph Northam came under fire when his page in a medical school yearbook surfaced, showing someone in blackface and another person wearing a KKK hood and robe. And Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax has been hit with a sexual-assault allegation, though he denies it. (New York Post)

State Attorney General Mark Herring has admitted that he, too, once wore blackface. He says he wore an afro wig and makeup as part of a costume as a rapper, at a party at the University of Virginia in 1980.

  • Virginia’s Democratic party really screwed this up. Vetting candidates is a top priority.
  • Give Democrats credit. Unlike Republicans, who twist themselves in knots defending and excusing poor behavior, most of the party leadership has called for Northam to step down.
  • I knew blackface was wrong when I was like 12 years old. The “young and dumb” excuse doesn’t cut it for me.

Robbery Victim Forced To Do Push-Ups During Attack

Devonte Whetstone was forced to do push-ups while being robbed in Nashville. The robber, Eric Ballard, punched him several times, cutting Whetstone’s bottom lip. He then allegedly made Whetstone do push-ups while saying if he tried to pick up his bike he’d shoot him in the head. Whetstone ran across the street to a Waffle House to call police. That’s when he saw Ballard grab his bike and leave with it. Ballard was later found on the bike on Avondale Circle headed toward Brick Church Pike. He was arrested without incident.

Gallatin High School Teacher Charged With Sexual Exploitation Of A Minor

35-year-old Douglas Richmond, a teacher at Gallatin High School, was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor. Officers were called to the school after a juvenile told the assistant principal about an alleged relationship between a 14-year-old student and a teacher. When interviewed, police said Richmond initially denied any relationship with the student, but then admitted to exchanging nude photos and “sexting.”    He allegedly denied any physical relationship between the two.
