Nashville’s population is higher than ever and yet the city has fewer police officers.
While some are retiring, several others are leaving for other departments like Franklin, Greenbrier and Spring Hill. Smallwood blamed a number of things including the new community oversight board, the District Attorney, and the lack of promised raises. Nashville is losing about $50,000 per month due to the shortage of officers writing fewer traffic tickets and Mayor David Briley said he’s already working with the police chief to do something about.
