The Black Girl Magic Playlist

We have all heard the phrase black girl magic and we say it to all the queens out there that are courageous, fearless, and determined in their drive. I believe that every black woman needs to be reminded that we embody that magic and it can’t go away. The magic within every black woman is ancestral and can’t be forced into a corner nor silenced by anyone. This is a playlist that is all about black girl magic and the beauty of melanin.

“Melanin hocus pocus baby” will be the lyric stuck in your head when listening to this song. The artist name is Che Lingo and though he’s a new artist he is someone to be on the lookout for. The lyrics are in reference to the making of a black woman rather internal or external. For example, in one point of the song he says “Natural potions in your bedroom for that glow sheen” which addresses the natural products many of us use on our skin in our beauty regimen. The video is an appreciation to every melanin tone as it features dark skin and light skin women refrenncing that all black is beautiful (there is no division).

Artist Jamila Woods starts the song with this powerful statement, “It’s our duty to fight for our freedom.” This statement is made by young girls at the beginning then as the song plays two girls dance beside her which attributes to black women start as solders at a young age. The video depicts scenes of black girls protesting bringing out the message that getting involved doesn’t have an age requirement. Woods gives me Erykah Badu vibes with her natural style, soothing voice, and black feminist image so if a fan of the iconic singer than Woods is someone to definitely check out.

If looking for a nice dance mix for your playlist then you must add this! This song gives nothing but reggae vibes and I couldn’t do anything but dance to this mix. St. Beauty is a soul group from Atlanta, Georgia made up by Alex Belle and Isis Valentino. The song speaks of not having fears and just letting go. It relays the notion that you must step away from being a certain label and gain a sense of unity. As stated before the song is a beautiful dance mix that will for sure have you feeling free.
